Erin Espelie TRUE-LIFE ADVENTURE

On view from August 15 to October 30, 2015

When Walt Disney described his True-Life Adventure films, made between 1948 and 1960, which won multiple Academy Awards, he said, "Nature writes the screenplays, we add the words . . ."

Here Nature doesn't abide by crescendos or narrative arcs. Instead, a faithful rendering of space and time (three seasons in three widening circles in the Rocky Mountains) reveals a small earthly stage, both lively and lonely, and our expectation for how wildlife behaves on a big screen—often cued by sound or narration—grinds against reality.
