Erin Espelie Bio

 

Erin Espelie is a filmmaker, writer, and editor, specializing in representations of science and nature. Her poetic, nonfiction films have shown at the New York Film Festival, the British Film Institute, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, CPH:DOX, the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, as well as at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, the Pterodactyl Gallery in Philadelphia, and the New York Hall of Science in Queens. Espelie has a degree in molecular biology from Cornell University, an MFA in experimental and documentary arts from Duke University, and currently serves as editor-in-chief for the popular science magazine Natural History—a publication that has been in print since 1900. She has taught classes at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, and will begin an assistant professorship at the University of Colorado Boulder in Film Studies and Critical Media Practices in Fall 2015.
