Jennifer Steensma Hoag Nearly Five

Environmental concerns were the inspiration for this project.  I wanted to make a video that addressed our responsibility regarding the current state of the environment.  I believe our children will hold us accountable if we fail to act.  What will we do – ask them to close their eyes? 
Transformed from environmental commentary to a poignant depiction of the complex relationship between a young child and her parent, the project displays notions of control and obedience, manipulation and negotiation, authority and acquiescence.
